A native of Columbia, South Carolina
and long time resident of Lakeside-Marblehead,
Ohio, Melva Thompson-Robinson, DrPH
received her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She received her Master of Science in Physical Education concentrating in
Sports Physiology and Adult Fitness from Ohio
University, in Athens,
Ohio. After working for
over three years as a Physical Fitness Instructor at the Nevada Test Site,
she obtained her Doctor of Public Health degree in Health Promotion and
Education from the University of South
Carolina, where she was named the 1998 Outstanding Doctoral Student in
the Department of Health Promotion and Education.
Currently, Dr.
Thompson-Robinson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health
Promotion in the School of Public Health at the University
of Nevada, Las Vegas. Prior to joining the
faculty at UNLV, she was an Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science and
Health Education in the Institute
of Public Health in the College of Pharmacy
and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Florida
A&M University.
Dr. Thompson-Robinson was named 2004 Teacher of the Year in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
at FAMU.
She is happily
married with four children ranging in age from infancy to 16 years, and a
beagle named Thelma.
